Unlocking the industry: energy storage and energy data management for every application

John Wood, CEO, Ecoult

Ecoult has spent most of the previous decade developing energy storage products for partial state of charge (PSoC) and variability management applications. John Wood will present and discuss datasets from our fully-monitored kilowatt and megawatt sites in Asia, Australia and the USA to show the work being performed by modern advanced lead-acid cells, which are performing in every conceivable stationary energy-storage application. John will explain how the lessons learned from current groundbreaking energy storage applications will shape the grid and off-grid world in coming decades.

The CSIRO-invented UltraBattery is unique among PSoC technologies. It is a long-life energy storage device combining the fast charging rates and longevity of ultracapacitor technology with the energy storage potential of lead-acid in a hybrid device with a single, common electrolyte. It achieves world-beating sustainability with low embodied energy in manufacture and full recyclability (96% of material goes back into new batteries), with no compromise on performance. UltraBattery cycles continuously at better than 92% efficiency, with high temperature tolerance, deep discharge rates and high power in applications ranging from offgrid diesel and microgrids through to high-rate frequency regulation.

Ecoult develops hardware, software and communications for UltraBattery applications and has developed a cloud-services platform to bring all monitoring, system control and significant maintenance into the online environment, allowing our customers to monitor individual systems or entire fleets, reducing service costs while creating energy savings at every level.
